You’re stuck. What do you do now? It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you don’t know what to do next. Those moments where you just stare at the wall, wondering how you got yourselves into this mess and how you can get out of it.
Fortunately, there are some simple things that you can do to help yourself move forward again. These activities are designed for you to avoid feeling lost or uninspired.
Whether it be trying something new or exploring an old interest, there are many inspirations on how to spend your time more productively so you feel happy again!
These may help you figure out what you want.
1. Watch a Comedy Show
There are a lot of comedy shows for you to choose from. You can watch stand-up comedians, sitcoms, or TV comedies. You might not think that watching comedy is very productive but it actually is. Laughing releases endorphins and reduces stress levels as well as giving your immune system a little boost!
2. Watch an Inspirational Movie
When you don’t know what to do, you can watch an inspirational movie. Inspirational movies make you feel better and give you hope for the future. They also give a new perspective on life and some movies might even change your life!
3. Read a Book
When you don’t know what to do, read a book! You can go to the library or bookstore and pick up some great books. It’s also easy to find new books online. Reading a book can give you a new perspective on any issue that’s been troubling you. It can easily distract from other problems in your life too.
4. Listen to Music
When you don’t know what to do, listen to music. You can hear it on the radio or TV. You can also search for it on the internet. Listening to music is good because it helps with your mood. It can make you feel better, especially if the song is about something troubling you. Put on some music to get your mind off of things.
Meditating is when you sit in a quiet room with your eyes closed. You will feel better when you are done. You can also do meditation in nature though, and that way, you don’t need to be inside. All you have to do is look at the water or the mountains while sitting down – then you will feel better, too!
6. Write a Journal
The act of writing in a journal can be just what you need when you don’t know what to do. It helps to get your thoughts out of your head, get them on paper, and get some perspective on them. Sometimes it can be therapeutic just to sit down and write about the things that are bothering you.
7. Learn a New Skill
When you don’t know what to do, learn a new skill. I think this can be helpful because it can give you a sense of accomplishment and you’ll know that at least you’re doing something. Taking classes at night or over the summer is also a great way to do this, but you can also just read books or watch Youtube videos on different topics.
8. Dance in Your Room
I know this might be silly, but there is no better stress reliever than dancing your heart out. I turn on the music, pick a favorite song, and start to dance around my room. I can really have fun with this. I recommend it if you’re having trouble deciding what to do next. It’s a great way to cheer yourself up.
Well, exercise is definitely a good idea. Just 15 minutes of exercise is enough to jumpstart the brain into thinking more clearly. It’s also important to remember that while exercise is indeed good for you, getting some exercise can actually make you feel better.
10. Get Yourself a Good Meal
Eating a good meal is a great way to relax and calm your mind. It’s also not difficult to do. I usually go for a bowl of oatmeal or cereal or even an apple. You can also cook something, like fried eggs or pasta. Just eat anything that feels satisfying and delicious to you and you will not worry anymore!
11. Talk to Someone You Trust
It’s nice to be able to converse with people you can trust, such as your parents, teachers at school, siblings, or best pals. They’re usually there for you whenever you need someone, which is helpful when you don’t know what to do.
12. Get Some Air
When you don’t know what to do, you can get out of the house and get some air. You can go to the beach and feel the sand between your toes. You could go for a walk and see what’s going on in town. Any activity you enjoy will do: take a drive, play video games, go bowling, or even just dance around in your living room with some music playing. Anything that gets you out of your head for a few minutes is good.
13. Visit a friend’s house
Hanging out in a friend’s house, making you feel entertained can be a great way to avoid boredom. Your friends might have different games to play with you or ways of walking around your friend’s house. You could also have some tasty treats while doing so! Spending time in someone else’s home is a good way to feel entertained without worrying about the things you want to do next.
14. Play with Your Pet
One of the most stress-relieving things to do when you’re not sure is playing with your pet such as your dog or cat. Playing with pets can be very relaxing and fun. It doesn’t have to take up a lot of time. You can play simple games like fetch with your dog for as little as 15 minutes and still get your mood improved.
15. Draw Something
Drawing something, whether it’s a person, place, or object is a fun activity. It lets you think about the subject in a personal way. It also involves your imagination and helps you learn more about the object or person that you’re drawing!
16. Go Somewhere New
Visiting somewhere new can provide stimulation and a new perspective. Your brain will be on overdrive, on the lookout for all of the opportunities available to you. You’ll be able to see your environment in new ways, which will allow you to have a more exciting day.
17. Listen to a Podcast
Podcasts are a fantastic way to pass time. One can learn something new, get a good laugh, or feel inspired to do something better with their life. If one does not know what to do when they don’t know what to do, they may want to start by listening to a podcast.

The next time you are overwhelmed to the point of not being able to decide what to do next, start by organizing your desk. Trust me, by taking care of your desk, you will feel a million times more productive.

It’s a great way to decompress after a long day or just when you want to take some much-needed self-care time for yourself. It makes you feel good and can even help with skin conditions like acne.
25. Play Video Games
Playing video games is one of the easiest ways to instantly make yourself feel better. It’s also great because it provides you with an activity that can be done without much physical effort on your part. This means you don’t have to worry about getting sweaty or tired.
It’s an amazing feeling when you can complete a level or race. Even more so if you can outsmart your opponents while doing so. Bonus points make you forget completely about whatever was bothering you in the first place!
